Louis was a local plumbing and heating specialist who dreamed of one day owning his own store. In 1970 Louis officially opened Louis Doe Home Center, where Louis and Judy grew their business into a staple of the community. The store started out offering plumbing, heating, and appliance services. Over the years Louis expanded to general hardware and gardening, while Judy added the pet store and later the flower shop that was originally located in downtown Damariscotta. The store was their pride and joy, Louis could be found at the store daily, sitting in his chair next to the woodstove, reading the local paper up until he passed away in 2017. Judy was known in the community for her wealth of knowledge about gardening, her love of animals, and her generosity to those in need! The store has remained family owned and operated, with Mark, son of Judy & Louis taking on the role as owner after Louis passed. Since Taking over Mark has added a greenhouse, and appliance repair service, and his wife Tara has added an engraving department. Mark grew up being at the store daily, many of our regular customers may recall seeing him wander the aisles as a toddler, stocking shelves as a teen, and taking on the role of store manager after college.
